I don't really see any differences between their culture and our cultures. The only difference would be that in the book, the children are banned from having romantic relationships with others because of their father and their religious reason. However other than that, having crush on someone and having heart beating because of that person seem to be same with our cultures. Even if the cultures are different, people's feelings are same no matter who they are and where they are from. Therefore, any kinds of romantic relationships also occur in our cultures.

The young woman shows that she might be romantically interested in Fahmy in a few ways. Beginning on page 58, the very first in the chapter, she begins to show her interest. It says, "He kept asking himself why she did not turn and flee in alarm as Khadija or Aisha would have if either had found herself in the same situation." It is one of the "customs and revered traditions" that women do not show themselves to men. They stay out of sight until they belong to the man in question. It's considered extremely scandalous for the young woman to be doing the laudry up on the roof with Fahmy so close by and she is in his sight range.
Fahmy wonders if the young woman does not consider him man enough to hide from. However, on page 59, it says, "Although she did not glance up at him, her demeaner, the blush on her cheeks, and her avoidance of looking at him all betrayed how intensely concious she was of his presence, or the impact he had made on her feelings." she blushes, so she knows he is looking at her like a man looks at a woman. Also, the blushing shows she feels slightly shy about his watching her, but if it were unpleasant, she would leave. He is having an "impact on her feelings" but she seems to enjoy it because she is sticking around to let him continue staring.
Also, on page 61, when Fahmy tries to make Kamal spell "love" and then "marriage" loud enough for the young woman to hear him she appears to be smiling.
Again on page 61, she reveals herself completely to Fahmy. Before, she was partially hidden by the blowing laundry, but she goes right to the wall separating the two roofs to do the rest of the laundry. It says, "She placed the basket on top of the wall and began to press the laundry down with the palms of her hands. She was close to him, separated by little more than a meter." It's dangerous for her to even be seen by him without running. To get right up close to him after he's talked about marriage, is beyond!
It's obvious that the young woman on the roof is interested in Fahmy!

Theres no differences in romantic feelings related to culture. I lived in two different countries with two different cultures. However, I never had noticed any differences between the those two contries except for the language. Some people thinks that their country is the best without visting and learning about other countries. For example, I had a friend who asked if there is a cellphone in Korea. I was surprised of her knowledge because the her new phone she was using was made from Samsung, which is a Korean company and it was a model which I had used 2years ago. When they do that, they think not only the culture but also the people will be different from them. Nevertheless, they are very wrong and I think they must go and see how amazing other contries in the world is because I saw a lot of different contries and I realized that they are all amazing in a same way.
'Love' is a feeling which everyone can have no matter if they are from Korea or America. It is not even realted to culture. It is just an emotion which every human being has. Thus, theres no differences in the feelings which the boy had in this book from the culture.
The kids are banned from having someone to love in this book because of their religion beliefs and their father. This situation had happened due to a culture problem. However, it can still happen in any places around the world and I think it is a difference between the real world and the book.

Most people don't expect to see an American boy or girl being romantically invovled with a Korean boy or girl. They think that it's surprising. When it's really not. It's surprising to some that a two people of similar or different cultures may date or be friends. Relationships that can be friendship or more then friends are I'm pretty sure very common. Everyone has their own views of relationships.

Fahmy goes up on the roof right before the sunset and catches a glimpse of the girl next door. He was in love with her. There are indication that the young women next door is interested in Fahmy romantically. The women, unlike other women, does not run away or hide when she sees a man and her cheeks blushed when she saw him. Also, when Kamal saids out loud the word 'marriage' and 'love', the young women appeared to be smiling.

On page 59 it states "What strange spirit caused her to be an exception to commonly observed traditions and reserved customs?" This woman who is going against traditions of a woman hiding herself from a man, may show she has a strong interest in Fahmy. She seems to be free spirited when "around" him or being seen by him. She attempts to approach him but then pulls away. "She picked it up and approached the wall adjoining the roof of his house. She placed the basket on top of the wall and began to press the laundry down with the palms of her hands. She was close to him..." She could have chosen any spots on the wall, although she chose to stand closet to him. The woman also did not stay for long, fleeing quickly back to her door. She might have glimpsed at him and felt a feeling of love or disbelief and backed down from her emotions.

In this chapter, Fahmy see's a girl when he was on the roof. He falls in love with her. There are some indications that the girl is interested in Fahmy. In page 61, "he thought that he noticed the semblance of a simile on her lips at that". When Fahmy asks words to his brother Kamal he asks words such as heart, love, and marriage. As the girl listens to the words she similes. This shows that she is interested in him and that even if she doesn't say that she loves him it shows that she likes him.

The contrast in attitudes towards romantic relationships in our culture and in this culture are evidently immensely different. In our culture, romantic relationships are welcomed with open arms by families and friends, and parents quite often encourage their chidlren to explore romantic relationships to a degree.
However, this culture seems to exemplify almost the exact opposite of our culture. Relationships between men and women here seem to be very one-sided. A man is in control, and a woman submits to whatever command he forces upon her.

Fahmy is in love with the girl next door and this fact presents many issues. One of these issues is that it is a total violation of his families traditions. It is completely inapropriate for even the slightest contact between these two without a marriage being proposed. Another issue is that this girl is allowing this to happen. On one hand it makes him happy that she might possibly feal the same way about him but on the other hand could this meen that she is too bold? The last issue I could think of would be chosing between the possibillity of a severe beating and never seeing her again or the fealing he gets having these moments on the roof with her no matter how scarce and rare they are.

In my opinion, the young woman next door is interested in Fahmy. She notices that Fahmy is staring at her but purposely tries not to show any feelings and continues with her working. This shows that she notices and knows that Fahmy likes her and she sort of temp him more by not responding. Also, it shows in the book that she blushes when he stares at her and that means that she also has a similar feeling for Fahmy as well.

Also, he notices "fingers slowly and deliberately grasping and releasing what she held, as though she was dragging out her work on purpose." These main two indications seems of a interest in Fahmy of the woman.

There are many indications that the girl next door is interested in Fahmy. Firstly it is customary that men and woman are not suppose to look at each other out in the open, but Fahmy goes outside to watch the girl fold clothes every evening. The girl doesn't have to fold clothes at that certain time but she chooses to knowing that Fahmy will watch, and she enjoys it. She purposefully avoids Fahmy's gaze just to make him crazy and fall more in love with her. All the while she pays attention to the words Fahmy speaks and will occasionally show that she's listening by blushing her cheeks or showing a slight smile. At the end of the chapter the girl brings her basket to the wall that is closest to Fahmy and this shows that she had deliberately confronted him. She could've chosen any other part of the wall but she chose to place basket closest to Fahmy.

I think that romantic relationships are approached in a same way even though it is a different country. However, some people's family could effect a lot. Even though people need to have certain ways for relationships, it all depends on how your family does it.

Fahmy understands that he is breaking the laws of his culture and religion, as is the girl he is in love with. He knows that if they are caught, they will receive severe punishment. But he, in this instance, follows his heart. He cannot control himself if he loves her, nor does he try to prevent his emotions. For the moment, they both can only enjoy each other's company in secrecy. In addition, he doesn't truly justify his actions, but gives them reason for exsiting.
