Ahmad sometimes went somewhere for a business trip and this time Ahmad had to go Port Said. When he left the family members meet and AMina’s children insist Amina to go out somewhere. Then Yasin brings up the idea of going to the mosque where she always wanted to go. Amina gets very tempted by this and decides to go with Kamal, who said he will help Amina come back and forth to the place. After Amina and Kamal went to see the mosque and while they were coming back, Kamal looses focus on Amina for he saw a bakery which smelled so good. Then an accident happens and Amina gets hit by a car slightly. She wouldn’t move and people started surrounding her. The driver got nervous and tried to admit to everybody that she was fine. In addition, the police man comes and asks if she and the driver can come to the police office to see if she’s alright. As soon as she heard this, she stands up and tells the driver to go and she leaves also. This is typical of Amina for she doesn’t want to be involved in something that would require somewhat argument. Also, I think she has a certain view of a police office, which she thinks that it’s a place where people who are sinful go to. So, she does not want to be sinful for the god will punish her. In addition, it is typical of Amina not to go to the police office for she thinks that Ahmad would figure this out and she doesn’t want him to get mad that she went out of the house. In this chapter, it shows again that she does not fight for herself and only wants peace.

- When Amina gets bumped by the car, she faints for a while. But when she wakes up and hears that she has to go to the police station, she shows everyone that she is fine and that the driver is allowed to go even though she is still hurt. The reason is because, she is not really allowed to be outside and if she goes to the police station, her husband would come. So she wanted not her husband to know that she had been out while he was on a business trip. This behavior is very typical of Amina as a muslim and a wife of a man.
2. Describe in your own words what Kamal daydreams about on pp. 168-169.
Kamal can picture Al-Hasayn coming out of "hiding" during the night and walking around the mosque like it is his house.
He daydreams of staying in the mosque overnight. Kamal wants to find a way to be there when they close it up for the evening, and then he'd stay there. He thinks that Al-Husayn will come out at night. At least, his spirit will, and Kamal will be able to speak with him. He'll tell him where he goes to school and hint that he's doing well there. He'll shower the old holy man in praise and appeal to him. That way, when he asks for all the things his little heart desires, the man will make those wants come true. He must have the power to give him as much money as he wants/needs and to make his mother live forever. He IS a revered teacher! The holiness of him will allow him to grant all of Kamal's wishes and wants, just so long as Kamal praises him and butters him up first, and only if he could stay in the mosque overnight to see the man come out.

When she goes out and she is hit by the car and passes out and people take notice, and the driver gets out to check on her. A police officer takes notice as well. The officer comes over to see what's going on. When she wakes up she tries to convince everyone she is fine. If she hadn't managed to convince the other people then the officer probablt would of taken Amina to the station and call her husband. If Ahmad were to find out she was out when he was gone, Ahmad would get very angry and may come home immediatly. She insists everything is perfectly fine.

1. What do you think is the best part of the trip for her?
The best part of the trip for Amina is when she is walking to the mosque with Kamal and feeling free. She had never been allowed to leave her home unless she was to visit her mother and get permission from her husband. Thus, she was first afraid to leave her home without her husband's permission but later on she felt free about walking around outside with his son until she had an accident. I think that she might have felt some kind of excitement about getting out of her house without her husband's permission. Even though she had the accident at the end, I think she had a great experience in her life.
2. Describe in your own words what Kamal daydreams about on pp. 168-169.
Kamal dreams that his family would forget him in the mosque so that he could spend the night alone there with al-Husayn. He dreamed of the love and affection al-Husayn would give him and his hopes and requests he would present to him. He pictured himself approaching al-Husayn and kissing his hand. Al-Husayn would ask him questions about his life and what he was doing at the mosque. Then Kamal would answer by revealing all of his requests at once to al-Husayn and hopefully they would be granted. He wished that he could play as much as he liked, control his father's temper, and for his mother's life to last forever. These are pretty unselfish wishes and he just wants what's best for his family.

This trip which Amina had was a great trip for her. When her husband was at home, she was not allowed to go anywhere. However, this trip had made her to see the outside world with her eyes.
Thus, the freedom she earned was a great part. However, I thought that the best part of the trip is that she had a chance to go and see the place where she was interested for her whole life. She went to a mosqu, which is a place like a church, and that place was very related to her interest, which is religion. She was a woman who had a strong beliefs toward her religion and who was very interested about it all the time. She even had a lesson from his son every night. Therefore, the trip she had was a awesome experience for her because she had a chance to visit the place where it was related to her interest.
2. Describe in your own words what Kamal daydreams about on pp. 168-169.
Kamal dreams of his family forgetting him in the mosque so that he can spend a day from night to morning with al-Husayn. He was dreaming to tell al-Husayn. Also he told him how he is doing in school to make sure that he is not a weird person but how he is doing well. He than thought that he could talk more about things with al-Husayn and that he is going to ask him to stay with him for the night, than Kamal would be able to request anything that he wants to.

When Amina's husband goes on a business trip, Amina is persuaded by Kamal that she should go to the mosque. When she is outside with Kamal, a car hits Amina slightly. She faints for a while but when the police men comes and asks her to go to the police station with him, she stands up and tells the driver to go and she leaves even though she was not fine. This was because first of all, she was not supposed to be outside. If she went to the police station, her husband might figure out that she was outside and that would not be good. If her husband knew about it, she will be in a lot of troble and it is a typical Amina who does not want her husband to get mad and respect him.

Why is kamal so excited to tell his secret?
I think that the reason Kamal is most excited to tell his secret is not based on the material of the secret, but the fact that he’ll get attention from his family. He does not seem to think about the fact that he will be revealing Fahmy’s secrect and he’s more focused on what he’ll get out of it.

Ahmad asks what made Fahmy ask to be engaged? Why would he ask suck a thing?
When Fahmy’s mother introduced the idea of Fahmy’s question to be engaged to Ahmad, Ahamd was confused on why Fahmy would even ask this. Fahmy thinks that he has seen the neighbor before and if it’s who he’s thinking, of then he wishes to marry her.

When Amina gets slightly hit by the car, the first thing that most likely goes through her mind when she wakes up from fainting is how to clear this history, so that nothing stirs up that her husband would notice. She insists that she is fine because that is the only way they will let the driver go. She wants the driver to be let go because if things become arise her husband will notice that she was out.
2. Describe in your own words what Kamal daydreams about on pp. 168-169.
The mosque serves a different purpose for Kamal. During the day and early evening, people attended and revered the mosque as a shrine. Kamal saw the mosque as a place where he could escape and meet the martyr al-Husayn. He believed al-Husayn's spirit would appear, walk around in-side the mosque and pray in the proper way, facing a prayer niche. Kamal hoped they might leave him there, the people responsible for closing down the mosque every day, and lock him inside when they closed the mosque up at night. Kamal would then be able to accompany him on al-Husayn's nightly rounds. During this time, Kamal could tell all his hopes and dreams to al-Husayn: to play as much as he liked inside the house and out, to have his sister and her new husband continue to live with the family,to change his father's temper, and keep his mother from dying. He would like enough money to be able to pay his way into paradise automatically. He believed al-Husayn could grant him these wishes.

Kamal wanted to continue his journey for two main reasons: curiosity and to extend this happy moment with his mother for as long as he could. Kamal, quite blatantly, is a very curious boy. He loves adventure and wanted to explore the streets. He also loves his mother very dearly, and wanted to experience as much as he could with her on this rare occasion.
Arguably, he could have also been slightly greedy, because it seems that his main goal was to buy a pastry. But this is not like Kamal. He probably had this goal in mind, but certainly not out of disconcern for his mother; he was very upset by her blow and loss of consciousness.
3. What quality or characteristic of Kamal leads him to insist that Amina keep exploring after she has been to the mosque?
The quality or characteristic of Kamal that leads him to insist that Amina keep exploring after she has been to the mosque is needyness. Much like earlier on in the book at the families tea time when Kamal made up that story about a boy geting beat up Kamal is just beging for attention. As the baby of the family Kamal's mother must treat him differently and he seems a bit spoiled. It even said he recognized the exhaustion in his mother's eye's but was so needy and desperate that he put himself before his mother to buy a pastry and spend more time with her.
